This is the first post.
First off let's talk about American manufacturing jobs being outsourced. In layman's terms it makes me sick. I have worked in various technical manufacturing jobs for over 10 years (including manufacturing LCDs for US military aircraft), and each skilled position I've held has always been shipped overseas to save some rich corporate fat cats' money that they probably don't even know what to do with at this point. What is made in America anymore? Only a handful of products I can think of off hand. This is our great big strategy for the future? Who's future? The rich are already rich. I would say it is a great strategy if the plan is the elimination of the middle class.
Let's take a closer look shall we. First the typical Midwestern manufacturing jobs were outsourced to countries where they could be filled cheaply. So the displaced American workers went back to school, we learned technical and computer skills for the next wave of technical jobs that was on the horizon. Now once again, due to corporate greed and misappropriation of funds those jobs are dwindling and being outsourced.
There was a day (long before I was born) where a high school diploma could land you a decent job, then it was an associates degree, then bachelors. Now a masters is almost a must really, and that still provides no security or longevity within any corporation, and be prepared, your company's name will most likely change 8 times if you stay there 3 or 4 years. Are we moving in the right direction? It would seem that we aren't. My blog, my opinion.
If I hadn't met so many co-workers in my travels that have come to me with the same story I would say oh I'm just a bitter person and these are my bitter views. The truth is I know others hold these exact same views. I know people that spent 10 years with a company and watched round after round of layoffs until their number was final called.
The bottom line is corporate responsibility. It doesn't exist. The worker is not looked at as a person. If I was feeling witty and clever I'd write a satire about corporate America, the truth is I'm too disgusted so I've cut to the chase.
Let's learn from history and not repeat it. Let's rebuild this country to what it used to be, or something better. For those that read this realize your actions and decisions affect your fellow Americans.
I'll leave you on this note. When it was decided we needed Aircraft in the middle of World War II, management didn't say, "Let's have another country build them for us cheaper !!!" and subsequently Rosie the riveter wasn't in the unemployment line but she was building Liberators to fight tyranny and oppression.
