Indonesia declares emergency

Indonesia's government declared a state of emergency after a quake killed more than 4,600 people, and rescue workers raced against time. This is a terrible tradgedy, I am only posting a new link to keep the information accurate as it comes in.

Barbaro's Surgery

This is a very sad story for the Ketentucky Derby winner Barbaro. The good news is he came out of surgery fine, now he has a long healing process ahead of him. The biggest complications for horses with this type of injury are infections. I know everybody is pulling for Barbaro to heal (including myself). He has the heart and spirit of champion and that will help him in his recovery.

131st running of the Preakness

Can Barbaro win the 2nd leg of the triple crown? The stage is set, post time is 6:14pm on Saturday May 20th. You can watch the action on NBC. There are nine horses running, the top contenders from the Derby will be entered, but also many horses that did not race in the Derby. Maybe one of them can pull off an upset. Look for Brother Derek to have a better romp than he did on Derby day. He was bumped early and it ruined his trip. Bernardini, Like Now, and Greely's Legacy are three longshots to watch that were not Derby entrants. This race is a shorter distance than the Derby so look for the jockeys to pick up the pace a bit sooner. If Barbaro shifts into overdrive like he did on the first Saturday in May, the rest of the field will be watching his backside. Enjoy all the action from Pimlico, I know I will !!

Iran Mocks European Nuclear Incentives

Iran plans on continuing with their heavy-water reactor that is scheduled for completion by early 2009. Such facilities produce plutonium as a byproduct usable in building nuclear weapons. Kind of scary if you ask me. I remember not so long ago they were blowing up our embassies and taking US hostages. I bet they can't wait to start cranking out nukes.

European Nations May Give Iran a Reactor

Is this as bad as it sounds? Read the story and decide for yourself. It seems like an absurd way to pacify Iran. The reactor would be less oriented towards weapon grade uranium processing but still would be a potential threat. In the end they probably will end up with a European reactor, and then a hidden one they build themselves.

Former owner of Amityville Horror house dead at 59

I'm not an ambulance chaser so I almost hesitated posting this news story. It just so happens I have a keen interest in the paranormal, and this may well have been the biggest case of our time. My respects and sympathy go out to the family of George Lutz. I listened to an interview on the Art Bell show where Mr. Lutz told his entire story from his own side, not the Hollywood version, and the house definately had an evil presence. It drove his family away within 28 days of moving in.

Investing: How to diversify now

Well this is what I have been trying to do for awhile. Since most investments are tied into the stock market, it can be way too risky during this type of economy. They basically tell you not to put it all in one type of investment, but I would put a higher emphasis on that right now. This is just my opinion, but right now, make sure to shelter some of your holdings by putting money into precious metals, and re-allocating your 401k-retirement account by shifting some of your balance over to bonds or money market for saftey. I am aware this is not an aggresive approach, but right now it is time to take a breather and see where your money will be safe.

Killer Alligator Believed Captured

Consumer mood buckles under high gas prices

Now, I don't want to change the name of my blog to the Bad News Journal. Think of it more like a wake up and watch where your money is invested journal for the time being. Just trying to keep a pulse on the economy and the markets. While they still have a pulse, the pulse is shifting. Look for market corrections.

Higher Oil Prices Fuel Inflation Risk

The Fed is going to keep hiking up interest rates, to those of you that keenly follow the markets, watch Gold prices keep soaring as the housing market begins to collapse. Oil hit 73$ a barrel. Keep an eye on all these indicators and remember the last time you saw these same numbers and how they affect each other. Place your bets wisely. Gold is trading at $717 an ounce in the Asian Market as I type this at 2am eastern standard time. If you have been on a desert island, Gold has gone up 100$ an ounce in 1 month. The first magic number was when it broke 600, the next magic number is when it hits 800 an ounce. All hell breaks loose and everybody jumps in the game to drive it up to $1000. Don't forget to keep an eye on silver as well. It hovers right below 15$ now. Has been moving up steadily. When Gold becomes too pricey, silver will then take off even faster. Also look for a stock market correction, it seems quite long overdue. These views in this post are my own opinions and are not those of the Bloomberg link to the original article.

Proquest Lenders Help

So it appears Proquest was able to cut a deal to get working capital from their lenders to stay afloat. Lucky dogs. Sure why not? Give them some more money. Here is 56 million dollars, will that help? Well 56 million never hurt anybody. Maybe Proquest will put it to good use. Start telling the truth about revenue. Become a caring and loving company. Turn a profit. Help old ladies across the street. Maybe it is for gold door knobs on their corporate offices? Sooner or later don't these lenders want to get paid? Guess not.
